Writer’s ‘Block’ Remember Your Purpose

Writer’s ‘Block’

November – 27 – 2024

It’s the one thing we all have as writers, yet none of us want. Or is it?

What’s really holding us back from setting to paper the thoughts that echo in our minds? The prose that offers connection, expression, and fullfilment.

Isn’t it comforting to know that writer’s ‘block’ in not a medical condition? (hoping you hear the sarcasm.) Equally comforting should be the opinion that the existence of this condition should be considered a fallacy.

What if the very thing keeping you from your ambitions as a writer is not a ‘block’ but simply fear? Fear of success or failure, it matters not. What does, is realizing how easy it is to overcome.

Because when you stop worrying about what you write or how you write and just write, the words will come. Remember that whatever you compose will be drastically altered anyway, so why the concern?

Yes, I said drastically. And if you aren’t drastically self-editing, you may want to reexamine your techniques

Naturally, if you are a seasoned professional I am speaking less to you and more to the aspiring author. Yes even those with vast experience may benefit frome the humble return to their origin.

The days when your frustrations and inexperience inhibited your growth.
When the thought of having your work published felt like a dream never destined to become reality.
Until your desires overcome your fears and you realized it was that easy. The only thing holding you back was you.

Don’t forget what you are writing for, your purpose. Remind yourself that this is not just for self-gratification, but connection.

Never forget that your reader wants to build a connection with you. They long to hear your words resonate long after reading them.

Writing is an exchange, a dance. Your reader wants to experience it with you.

  1. What we initially write will be drastically altered – I love that! So why hesitate with apprehension?! Just jot down something, which is going to be changed – ha! The only thing holding me back, is me. Hmmm… I appreciate your insights & words of encouragement, which are at the same time, a poetically interesting experience to read. I also enjoyed your personality which comes through in your relatable writing. Experiencing your thoughts with you, which are now also my thoughts – in agreement. Many thanks
